Aging Gracefully and Healthily

Growing older is an inevitable reality that happens to all of us.

On one hand, there is aging as we know it, and then there’s healthy aging. What’s the difference?

Well, there’s physical aging—wrinkles, hardness of hearing, bones becoming brittle, hearts slowing down, bodies breaking down.

“As we age, the ligaments and tendons that hold our joints together become stiffer,” explains nutritionist and dietitian Jo Ann Marie Verdadero-Salamat. “The cartilages in joints wear away and can lead to aches and pain.”

And then there’s aging with grace. The World Health Organization defines healthy aging as, “the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables well-being in older age.” Simply put, it’s aging while still being able to enjoy our lives, and all the trappings that go along with it.

How then, can we manage to age in a graceful manner?

By adopting healthy new habits:

BECOME A PICKY EATER

That is, become more discerning. Less trans fat, fried and processed food that may trigger inflammation. Your meals should be easily recognizable—leafy greens, lean meat and fresh fruit. The less preservatives and additives, the better for you.

MOVE TO THE MAX

A study by the University of Birmingham and King's College London revealed that older people who have exercised all of their lives, compared to a group of similarly-aged adults who did not exercise regularly, showed no loss of muscle mass and strength. Setting aside 20 minutes of exercise a day, through yoga, walking or Zumba, already amounts to 150 minutes a week!

DRINK TO YOUR HEALTH

ANLENE MOVEMAX is the adult milk that focuses on healthy aging. It is high in protein (5.4g) for muscle health, and has twice the amount of calcium (600 mg) than regular milk—that helps in having stronger bones. Plus, more than enough collagen (230mg) for healthier joints that keep cartilages firm. It’s the delicious supplement to ensure that you keep moving to the max!
