Turning New Behaviours into Habit

There’s that popular saying, “Old habits die hard,” but it only tells half the story. The other half is that new habits are just as difficult to form. But it isn’t impossible, if you give it time and perseverance! When it comes to forming new habits for a more active and healthy lifestyle, you can follow the 3R method—not the recycling one, of course—Reminder, Routine, and Reward.

Reminder
When you set out to form a new habit, you need to constantly remind yourself to initiate that particular habit. You can turn your everyday activities into reminders. If you always drink a cup of coffee* in the morning, turn it into a reminder to add some Anlene into your morning coffee*. If you have to visit a convenience store nearby, use it as a cue to prompt yourself to walk or cycle instead of driving there.

Routine

The routine is the action you take, like drinking coffee* and buying groceries. You can begin with forming new habits that are easy enough that you can’t say no. It does not have to be a big, immediate change to your lifestyle, so long as you stick to that new routine of drinking your coffee* with Anlene or walking to the convenience store.

Reward

Actions become habits because you feel or get rewarded at the end of it. When you drink coffee*, you feel more energised. When you visit the convenience store, you get to buy the groceries you need. So when you try to form new habits, celebrate! When you go out of your way to make a change, give yourself a treat or a pat on your own back!

Feeling good is part of helping you become more active and healthier, which is why everything that you do on AnleneMove and beyond will earn you a reward, be it in the form of points or, ultimately, a stronger, healthier you. So let’s get moving together for better tomorrows!
